Following too Close ticket on Suspended license?

Ok, so it was rainy and I was on my way to work. I had to slam my brakes because there was a woman who stopped in the middle of the road. She didn't have hazard lights or brakes lights on. I clipped her on the corner left bumper. In front of her vehicle was a man who had hazard lights on. When I asked her what was going on, she said he ran out of gas. We called the police, he gave me a ticket for following to close and driving on a suspended license. Now I received a driving on suspended license before but it was dropped because I was able to show proff of my license before the court date. The same for this situation, the next day I went to DMV to reinstate my license and I was able too. My questions are my court date is July 16th, Im expecting a child July 11th. Im afraid that they will actually give me jail time. I also want to know, based on my situation, is there a way to get out of the following to close? I wasn't even en-route with this woman.Thank you
