Is another STAR TREK movie really necessary?
I was a HUGE fan of the show growing up, and I was a bigger fan when TNG was on. Less so, Deep Space 9, and disappointed in VOYAGER. At this point I was ready to just give up on the show when ENTERPRISE came around. I seriously wanted to believe that Paramount would do something DIFFERENT for the show -- perhaps be, I don't know -- CREATIVE for once, instead of retreading stories ad nauseum from all the other series. Now ST XI is set to be out in a year and already I can see conflict. Chekov at Starfleet Academy the same time as Kirk and Spock? He didn't join the crew until Year Two of TOS -- and he was by far the youngest of the crew. And Spock was already serving under another captain before Kirk -- how could they still attend the academy together? And don't get me started on McCoy, 20 years older than everyone! What other inconsistencies will Paramount gloss over in the movie?
