I'd like to know what is hapenning to my 1997 lancer mitsubishi .?

i'd like to know what is hapenning to my 1997 lancer mitsubishi car. when i start the engine and step on the clutch and the gas, the car suddenly makes a jug- jug -jug effect. its as if the engine wants to die down. its not that i dont know how to drive something is really wrong , i dont how to call it but it goes and it stops and goes and stop .i really need to control the clutch. does this have to do with the clucht disk or is something else?
